Important note: It is not recommended to use any kind of acrylic sheeting behind or too close to any kind of heat source. Glass is the most suitable choice in situations involving any kind of heat sources, such as cookers, hobs, open fires, radiators, wood burners, Rayburns, or Agas, as it can withstand temperatures of up to 160°C without being damaged.
Which materials are safe near a heat source?
- Electric, ceramic and induction hobs are safe to have acrylic panels behind them but there must be at least a 50mm gap between the panel and the hob.
- The safest option is to use a glass splashback for gas hobs.
Please see our splashbacks page for more information on cooker types and acrylic.
Key Features of Clear Perspex Acrylic Sheets
Clear Perspex sheets give exceptional optical clarity, even in thicker blocks. They transmit 92% of all visible light, making the light transmission higher than most types of glass. Our clear plastic sheets are an advantageous option for use in windows or as a skylight.
Clear acrylic sheeting is easy for us to fabricate and it can be cut, drilled and shaped to any of your requirements so it’s a flexible material to work with. The cut surfaces can be polished and sanded easily for a more professional finish to your sheeting.
Clear acrylic sheets are incredibly durable, so are often used as a secondary glazing alternative to glass. They are also particularly useful for sheds or around the home with children or pets. Clear plastic sheets have good resistance to impact, becoming a safer option in many environments. Perspex is internationally recognised as a safety glazing material meeting the requirements of ANSI Z.97 and BS 6262.
Clear acrylic sheeting has outstanding resistance to outdoor weathering. It is also UV resistant, so it can endure prolonged exposure to sunlight. Perspex sheets have a low moisture absorption rate, so they are useful for various environments and are perfect for outdoor applications. Perspex acrylic is manufactured with UV-stable molecules and retains its stability and transparency over time.
Clear Perspex weighs half as much as an equivalent glass pane, making installation, transportation, and handling an easier option than other materials.
The high gloss surface of Perspex makes it easy to clean, keeping maintenance costs to a minimum. All you need is warm soapy water and a microfibre cloth needed to ensure a hygienic finish. You can also polish a clear acrylic sheet to buff out any scratches.
Built to Last
Perspex is a material that is intended for use in applications that require longevity. A standard acrylic sheet made with Perspex is capable of withstanding outdoor weather conditions for up to 10 years, and the manufacturers guarantee that there will be no significant changes in its appearance or performance during that time, even when used outside!
Perspex Acrylic Sheets comply with current EU and American (FDA) food contact regulations. Please note that food contact compliance testing should be carried out on finished articles and not flat sheet samples. For further information please contact the Perspex sales office.
Perspex Acrylic is 100% recyclable. Waste products can readily be recovered from the original raw material (the monomer) and re-used in a new sheet.
Perspex has been manufactured in the UK for over 85 years and still takes place on the same site in Lancashire as it did in the 1930s. This short supply distance to our UK customers helps reduce ‘product miles’ from the manufacturing plant to the end user.
Numerous different investments have already been made by Perspex to lessen the impact on the environment. Annual waste consumption has been reduced by 24 million litres, and almost 800 tonnes of carbon dioxide have been saved every year as part of a hot water recycling project. At Cut My Plastic, we work to be more sustainable by using all of our offcuts to heat our manufacturing facility. We are also currently working towards reducing packaging.
